Your obligations - the legal stuff

There is a legal obligation to ensure that your business/service is as accessible as it can be. The legislation that provides this obligation is called The Equality Act 2010.

The Act gives protection to the following groups:

  • Age
  • Gender Reassignment
  • Race
  • Sex and Sexual Orientation
  • Disability
  • Marriage and Civil Partnership
  • Religion or Belief
  • Pregnancy and Maternity

It is therefore important to make every reasonable effort to ensure that everyone can have the same experience when visiting your business or accessing your service.

The best way to look at this is as an opportunity to improve your service or business by reaching out to a wider audience.

All information is good information; it is about highlighting what you have done, or are planning to do and then communicating it to your customers so they can make an informed choice.
